This project was done in 2010. The owners, had owned the 2-bedroom unit for quite a few years, and had considered selling this and buying another condominium, since they were no longer pleased with the installations. The entire place needed renewal and refurnishng.
The existing kitchen included a bar but was cramped upon entering the main door, and unattractive. With so much furniture in the space, the entire unit felt very small, even though it is not.
The owner said she would like an island in the kitchen, but thought it wasn't possible in the space available. Upon drawing and exploring the possibilities, I found that we could indeed put a country "Italian" style table at kitchen counter height in, which would function as a dining table as well as part of the kitchen counter space. Upon finding that they could get the results they wanted and save a lot of money by staying in their existing condo, we went to work!
The kitchen we remodeled using stainless steel appiances, with dark woods in the custom cabinetry with contemporary design doors. We gained a lot of counter and cabinet space by moving the refrigerator and laundry area.
We darkened all the woodwork throughout, and also changed out the old large and unused jacuzzi tub in the master suite , which extended into the walkway of the bathroom, for a European-styled contemporary soaking tub which the husband wanted, and which opened up the master bedroom to its bathroom .
All of the wood furniture is custom -made here in Cabo San Lucas, designed by myself.
The paint colors are wonderful khakis and creams, which provides a neutral and warm grounding for the furnishings. The natural linens on the beds and accents of jute, rustic bench and trunk table, dark rattan, with the contemporary lighting and pieces provides a balanced, uncluttered and cozy environment.
Many times in furnishings or remodels, less is more. In this project it is especially true.
